Elegbe emerges 2023 EY Entrepreneur of the Year

Mitchel Elegbe, Chief Executive Officer of Interswitch Group, has been named the winner of the 2023 Ernst & Young, EY Awards. Interswitch was selected from among entrepreneurs to win the annual event, which was held at Eko Hotels and Suites.

EY, a global professional services firm, has recognized entrepreneurs across the world through its EY World Entrepreneur of the Year Award (WEOY). This award has been recognized in 60 countries and over 120 cities. In Nigeria, the award was launched in 2021, and Mr. Ashish Bakhshi, the Senior Partner and Head of Markets, EY West Africa, noted that EY aims to celebrate entrepreneurs to help them grow.

The EY World Entrepreneur of the Year Award is a global event that aims to recognize entrepreneurs who are making a positive impact on society through their businesses. The award has different categories, including the emerging category, which focuses on companies that are still in their early stages. The founder of Nairametrics, Ugochukwu Obi-Chukwu, was the winner in this category for Nigeria.

The winner of the EY West Africa Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Alegbe, will represent West Africa in the global awards, which will be held on June 6 in Monaco, France. Alegbe will compete with close to 60 other entrepreneurs worldwide. According to Ashish, Alegbe’s representation in the global awards is a boost for the entrepreneurship spirit of Nigerians, which is good for the economy.
