Mr. Olusegun Fafore, the Executive Assistant on New Media and Public Relations to the Lagos State Governor, delivered a keynote address titled “Excellent Leadership: A Bedrock for Sustainable Democracy” during the 2023 edition of the Annual Otunba Bola Adewunmi [OBA] Leadership Summit. The summit was held on Sunday, 26th March 2023, at the Eko Hotels and Towers in Lagos. In his address, Mr. Fafore urged Nigerians to take responsibility for their constitutional duties in their quest for excellent leadership towards sustainable democracy in the country.
The Annual OBA Leadership Summit was organized in honor of its founder, Otunba Robert Bolaji Adewunmi, a former Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Government. JCI Lagos Metropolitan, also known as “The Doyen,” hosted the event in line with the chapter’s commitment to the vision and ideals of the visionary leader.
Mr. Fafore emphasized the imperatives required to achieve sustainable democracy through leadership discipline and compliance with certain tenets. He listed these tenets to include sovereignty of the people, majority rule and minority rights, the rule of law and good governance, respect for civil and political rights, mass literacy, economic prosperity, social development, free press, and an independent judiciary, among others.
In conclusion, Mr. Fafore’s address highlighted the importance of excellent leadership as a bedrock for sustainable democracy in Nigeria. He called on all Nigerians to actively rise up and take charge of their constitutional responsibilities towards achieving this goal. The Annual OBA Leadership Summit served as a platform for discussions and reflections on how best to attain sustainable democracy in Nigeria.
