KAP Hosts Filmmakers at FESPACO 2023

Kunle Afolayan, the CEO and founder of KAP Motion/Golden Effect Pictures, organized a reception/party to celebrate African cinema and honor attending filmmakers during the 28th edition of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO). The festival, which started on the 25th of February 2023, was held at the conference room of the Pacific Hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

FESPACO is a biennial event that brings together professionals in African cinema and other countries around the world, such as Nigeria, France, England, Belgium, Cameroon, South Africa, Mali, Morocco, Senegal, and Burkina Faso. This year, the festival shortlisted 100 movies from 35 African countries and the diaspora to compete across 11 categories, including short film, documentaries, TV series, and animation. Notably, almost half of the fiction competition entries were directed by women.

The festival aims to examine the past and future significance of the African film and audiovisual industries’ development. The event was a cocktail of culture and creatives and attracted dignitaries and filmmakers from around the world. Kunle Afolayan urged more cross-country collaborations among filmmakers to create more opportunities, citing his award-winning movie as an example.
