MTN, Pan-Atlantic University announce second edition of the Media Innovation Programme

MTN Nigeria Communications and Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) have jointly announced the commencement of the second edition of the Media Innovation Programme (MIP) and are inviting applications from media practitioners across Nigeria. The MIP was first launched in 2022 to support media practitioners and encourage an understanding of the rapidly changing media landscape. It is a six-month fully funded certificate fellowship that includes a study visit to the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and an innovation hub to incubate ideas.

The MIP is open to media practitioners across print, electronic, online platforms, and social media content creators. The programme is designed to empower media practitioners to report at an elevated level, combining innovation with solution-oriented media practice that benefits their readers. According to Karl Toriola, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, the media is a crucial contributor to a thriving nation, and enhancing media practitioners’ skillset will benefit society at large.

The Vice-chancellor of PAU, Prof Enase Okonedo, expressed that the institution provides training that enables students to uphold the highest intellectual and ethical values in their professional and everyday endeavors. The MTN MIP is a melting pot of sessions and discussions promoting creative thinking, technology-forward practices, and honesty that enable participants to continue practicing with journalistic integrity.

Twenty professionals will join the 2023 MIP cohort after a review of applications. The programme will offer a multifaceted opportunity for fellows to explore Nigeria’s technology sector and the nexus between media and technology. It will also equip them with skills to adapt to the nation’s changing realities. Fellows will have access to professional resources and mentorship from PAU’s erudite faculty.

Interested journalists and bloggers can apply for the programme on the MTN designated website. The MIP will enable media practitioners to keep abreast of the rapidly changing media landscape, equip them with the necessary skills to adapt to changing realities, and promote innovative and solution-oriented media practices that benefit their readers. It is a unique opportunity for media practitioners to explore Nigeria’s technology sector and gain valuable experience from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.
